Here are the 4 mistakes to avoid when showering.

Taking a shower is part of our daily routine and makes us feel refreshed and invigorated. Yet, without knowing it, we sometimes make a few mistakes that harm our skin or our well-being. Discover below the 4 mistakes to avoid to fully enjoy your shower, while preserving your health and that of the planet.

1. Using water that is too hot

  • Dries out the skin: very hot water removes the skin's lipid barrier, making it more sensitive, prone to irritation and itching.
  • Damages the hair: Too high a temperature can weaken the hair fiber, causing split ends and dull hair.
  • Adjust the temperature: prefer warm or slightly warm water to preserve the skin's natural hydration and the shine of your hair.
  • Finish with a jet of cool water: this habit tones the skin, tightens the hair scales and brings a feeling of vitality.

2. Extend the shower indefinitely

  • Water waste: Showers that are too long significantly increase water and energy consumption, which has a negative impact on the environment.
  • Skin dryness: Staying underwater for too long can dry out the skin, even if the temperature is reasonable.
  • Set a time: Try to limit your shower to no more than 5 or 10 minutes.
  • Use a timer: A small hourglass or alarm on your phone can help you become aware of the passing of time.
3. Rubbing the skin too vigorously

  • Irritation and strain injuries: Over-exfoliation or frequent exfoliation can damage the skin's surface, causing redness and tightness.
  • Imbalance in the skin flora: the skin contains protective microorganisms, and too much friction can disturb this balance.
  • Keep it gentle: Use a sponge or a soft washcloth, and make light movements all over the body.
  • Exfoliate in moderation: one body scrub a week is enough to remove dead cells without attacking your skin.

4. Neglecting the hygiene of your accessories

  • Proliferation of bacteria: poorly maintained sponges, washcloths or brushes accumulate soap residue, dead skin and moisture, becoming nests of microbes.
  • Risk of infections: Washing with a dirty accessory can cause skin irritation or infection.
  • Rinse and dry: After each use, rinse your accessories thoroughly and let them air dry.
  • Replace regularly: depending on the frequency of use, change your sponge or washcloth every 3 to 4 weeks to maintain good hygiene.

Practicing good habits in the shower is essential to keeping our skin, hair, and the environment healthy. By avoiding hot water, limiting the duration of the shower, rubbing the skin gently and properly caring for our accessories, we can enjoy a real moment of well-being, while taking care of ourselves and the planet.
