Putin humiliated as Moscow hit by ‘cyber attack’ on election day and blames UK

 

Russia has accused the UK for originating the "cyber attacks" as the country gets into the final day of the election. The strikes took place on the final day of tightly controlled parliamentary elections, which are widely expected to deliver another victory for the ruling United Russia party, a key supporter of President Vladimir Putin.

The chair of Russia's Central Election Commission has insisted the country's parliamentary elections are still proceeding smoothly despite "cyber attacks". In comments carried by Tass news agency, Ella Pamfilova said attacks on the digital electronic voting system originated primarily from abroad, including Ukraine and the UK.

She added that more than 100 million "potentially harmful attacks on election resources" had been successfully blocked. This is the first time Russia has publicly named other countries it accuses of the attack.

On Saturday overnight, Moscow was hammered huge strikes from Ukraine - on the final day of voting in the 'sham' election.

More than 1,600 drones were downed by air defences in a Ukrainian onslaught that set the city's main oil refinery ablaze. A total of 450 were intercepted as they approached Moscow.

Three people have reportedly died in the incident. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said it was the largest-ever drone attack on Russia's capital.

Commenting on the overnight strikes, Sobyanin said: "This unprecedented attack was clearly planned to disrupt the elections. The enemy failed to achieve this. Since yesterday, more than 1,600 drones have been intercepted across all fronts. Of these, 450 were approaching Moscow."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the strikes, writing on X: "Our long-range responses had a very significant impact in the Moscow region last night."

He added: "One of Russia's key oil industry facilities and the aggressor's logistics facility were hit. These are billions of dollars that sustain the war machine."
